原画と複製画についての違いと、それぞれの魅力はなんだと思われますか？
決定的な違いの一つに、唯一無二か否か、という点があるかと思います。
この世界にたった一つの商品、それが「原画」です。
原画を所有することのできるのはたった一人。
当たり前のことですが、これは複製作品では得ることのできないものです。
もう一つの大きな違いは、
画家が実際に残した筆致や、絵具そのものの色彩を目の前で感じられることです。
絵具の重なりや鮮やかな色彩は、
どうしても複製作品では出せない表現です。
近年の印刷技術は素晴らしいものがありますが、
やはり、絵具の質感や発色、画材による様々な表現を複製作品で出すことはとても難しいと思います。
例えば、作品によって使用している金彩の煌めきは、
印刷では箔などの特殊印刷を上に載せない限りは、黄土色に印刷されてしまいます。
ですが、原画では添付写真のように、角度によって煌めきがあり
とても美しいです。
絵具の塗り重ねによる高低差にできる影なども、原画でしか味わえない魅力の一つでしょう。
それでは複製作品に魅力はないのか、というとそんなことはありません。
私のオンラインショップでは、複製作品はキャンバスプリントを主に販売していますが、
原画作品より一回り小さく縮小して展開しているので、
気軽にコレクションして飾ることができます。

木枠付きのキャンバス布地に印刷しているので
原画とは全く異なる質感ながら、やわらかくお部屋に馴染む商品となっています。

通常の複製作品には無い、リアルな筆致をほんの少し加えた商品で、

以上のように、複製作品は原画とは異なり、
サイズを選んで購入できたり、手軽さ、コレクションのしやすさが魅力ではないでしょうか。
私自身は、原画と複製作品は競い合うものではなく、それぞれ異なる魅力を持つものだと考えています。
原画は、この世界に一枚だけ存在する作品です。
筆跡や絵具の重なり、光によって表情を変える金彩など、
その作品が持つ空気までも感じられるのは、原画ならではの魅力です。
一方で、複製作品は、より身近に作品を楽しめる存在です。
飾る場所やサイズを選びやすく、暮らしの中へ気軽に取り入れられることも、大きな魅力だと思います。

Hello, I am Bansyoyo. What do you think are the differences between an original painting and a reproduction, and what makes each so appealing?
One of the most defining differences, I believe, is whether it is one-of-a-kind. An original painting is the only one in existence in this world. Only one person can ever own it. While this may seem obvious, it is an experience that a reproduction simply cannot offer.
Another major difference is being able to feel the artist’s actual brushstrokes and the colors of the paint itself right before your eyes. The layering of paint and the vividness of the colors are expressions that reproductions struggle to capture.
While recent printing technologies are truly wonderful, it remains incredibly difficult for reproductions to replicate the texture of the paint, the vibrance, and the diverse expressions born from art materials.
For example, the shimmer of the gold details I use in some of my works will turn out a flat ocher color in standard printing, unless special techniques like foil stamping are applied on top.
However, as you can see in the attached photo, the original painting shimmers beautifully depending on the angle you look at it. The delicate shadows created by the peaks and valleys of layered paint are also a charm that can only be experienced with an original.
Does this mean reproductions lack appeal? Not at all. In my online shop, I primarily sell canvas prints as reproductions. They are scaled down to be slightly smaller than the original pieces, making them easy to collect and display. The canvas prints in my shop are printed on canvas fabric stretched over a wooden frame. While they have a completely different texture from the originals, they have a soft, gentle quality that blends beautifully into any room. I also create limited-edition canvas prints that feature hand-embellished details. By adding just a touch of real brushstrokes—something standard reproductions don’t have—these pieces serve as a wonderful first step before purchasing an original, offering a more approachable option.
As you can see, the beauty of reproductions lies in their accessibility, the ability to choose sizes, and how easily they can be collected, setting them apart from original paintings.
Personally, I don’t see original paintings and reproductions as rivals; rather, I believe they each possess their own unique appeal. An original painting is the only one of its kind in the entire world. The ability to feel the very atmosphere of the artwork—through the brushstrokes, the layered paint, and the gold accents that shift expression with the light—is a charm unique to the original.
On the other hand, reproductions allow you to enjoy art closer to your everyday life. The freedom to easily choose the perfect size for your space and effortlessly weave it into your living room is a wonderful advantage.
If you ever find yourself thinking, “I’d love to welcome an original painting into my home someday,” starting your journey with a reproduction to enjoy a life filled with art is a beautiful choice. And when you finally encounter that one piece that truly speaks to your heart, the joy of becoming its sole custodian in the world is an experience only an original painting can give you.
