ヘムロックというのは毒草のことで、この作中ではドクニンジンと芥子の花を指しています。
「夢」を主題とし、毒草から悪夢を連想するように選びました。
少女が手に持つ鋏。
私がとても好きなモチーフの一つで、他の作品にも度々登場しますが、
一種の攻撃性と、「断ち切るもの」として描いています。
穏やかで柔らかな悪夢。
例えば、悪魔は甘言で人間を誘惑すると言います。
私にとって、悪夢も似たようなもので、目覚めたいのに目覚められない。
時に、目覚めることすら忘れてしまうような、甘やかな世界。
少女を取り囲む花々や、騎手たちも左回りに配置しています。
これは一般的な時を指し示す時計が右回りなことから、
時の流れと逆行している夢の世界を示唆しています。
もしかすると、夢の世界は居心地の良い世界なのかもしれない。
けれども、少女はそれを断ち切る。
自らの持つ鋏によって。
この作品が、それぞれの記憶や物語と静かに重なれば嬉しく思います。
“Hemlock” refers to a poisonous plant—specifically, poison hemlock and poppies in the context of this piece.
With “dreams” as the central theme, I chose these toxic flora to evoke the imagery of a nightmare.
The scissors held by the girl are one of my favorite motifs, appearing frequently across my works.
I depict them as a symbol of a certain aggressiveness, as well as “that which cuts away.”
A gentle, soft nightmare.
They say that demons tempt humans with sweet words.
To me, nightmares are similar—you want to wake up, but you can’t.
A world so sweet that at times, you even forget the desire to awaken.
The surrounding flowers and the riders are arranged in a counterclockwise direction.
Since ordinary clocks move clockwise to indicate time, this movement suggests a dream world flowing in reverse against time itself.
Perhaps the dream world is, in fact, a comfortable place to be.
Yet, the girl cuts through it.
With the scissors she holds in her own hands.
I hope this piece quietly overlaps with your own memories and personal stories.
