『Thorns and Thistles』は、茨とあざみをモチーフに描いた作品です。
美しく咲き誇る反面、両方とも鋭い棘を持つ植物です。
世界を取り巻くあらゆる傷。多くの苦難を棘に置き換え、
美しく、優しくも厳しい生命の棲む世界を表現しています。
また、茨とあざみは棘だけではなく、美しい花々としても描いています。
花々は二人の少女人形を天蓋のように優しくつつみ、少女たちの足元には
緑鮮やかな柔らかい草花が茂っています。
そして、野薔薇の花や実は、季節や生命の循環も表現しています。
たくさんの棘はわたしたちの体を傷つけますが、
その傷をやさしく受け止める確かな存在も、この作品では同時に描いています。
この作品が、それぞれの記憶や物語と静かに重なれば嬉しく思います。
Thorns and Thistles is a painting inspired by briars and thistles. While both bloom with remarkable beauty, they are also plants protected by sharp thorns.
In this work, countless wounds and hardships are expressed through those thorns, portraying a world where beauty, gentleness, and severity exist together within living things.
The briars and thistles are not shown only for their thorns, but also for their blossoms. Their flowers gently form a canopy above the two doll-like girls, while soft green plants spread beneath their feet. The wild roses, with both flowers and hips, also suggest the changing seasons and the quiet cycle of life.
Although thorns may wound us, this painting also speaks of the quiet presence that receives those wounds with tenderness.
